Functionality and Security

Functionality

After registering at iMedicor.com, healthcare professionals and patients are prompted to fill out a profile. Physicians can access their pre-populated Curricula Vitae (CV) by tapping into one of the most extensive databases of physician information available in the US. Each CV contains as many as 193 data points on each physician.

This profile information enhances the community component of iMedicor as all users can be located through the iMedicor internal search engine as a comprehensive registry. Users may also remain anonymous if they choose. Physicians have the ability to look up other physicians for referral purposes and patients can locate physicians for treatment and e-consults. Once a patient/physician relationship is confirmed within iMedicor, a secure sub-network is created for safe, private information exchange.

Once a profile has been created or CV accepted, users are prompted to create their private information exchange network. Networks are created by users inviting other existing or new users into iMedicor via email or fax invitations. Once the invitee accepts, both users belong to the same private network and may securely exchange information. The secure messaging works very similar to standard email for ease of use but it can never be intercepted by others using the Internet.

In addition iMedicor employs a proprietary print driver that allows for exportation of documents and images from any EMR system. iMedicor also facilitates the exchange of CCR files between users. As a use-case-scenario, specialists have the ability to send a CCR from their EMR to a patient's primary care physician and copy the patient. The patient can then export the CCR directly into their Microsoft HealthVault account via a seamless integration.

Security

Since iMedicor is available to its registered users via the Internet, the software's physical model is designed to facilitate security protection for the underlying system data while providing a scalable platform.

The Software Physical & Security Model consists of four security zones separated by a firewall:

  • Public Zone is an unsecure level since it is exposed to both iMedicor users and the general public via the Internet.
  • Web Server VLAN Zone is the first secure zone. Its firewall guards entry allowing only HyperText Transfer Protocol over Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS) traffic on port 443. All other ports may be closed and other types of traffic may be denied access
  • Fileserver VLAN Zone is the next level of security. Storing attachments uploaded via the Web Server here provides an additional level of security in the event the Web Server is compromised. Access to the Fileserver is allowed only from an authenticated account on the Web Server.
  • Database VLAN Zone is the fourth level of security separating the SQL Server Database Servers from the Web Server Zone. Storing the iMedicor data here provides an additional level of security in the event the Web Server is compromised. Access to the Database Server is allowed only from an authenticated account on the Web Server.
